Context Compass

Map repository context before a coding agent starts making changes.

Paid workflow on Agensi ↗GitHub ↗
Problem

Unfamiliar repositories contain scattered instructions, stale context, and quality checks that are easy to miss before editing.

Vision

Give developers and coding agents a concise repository map with source references, open questions, and grounded leads for what to inspect next.

Architecture

A local-first Codex plugin and TypeScript scanner. Read-only scans inspect instructions, documentation, package scripts, code layout, and git signals; an explicit verification mode can run discovered quality checks.

Role and stack

Design and implementation. TypeScript, a bundled local scanner, fixture tests, and Codex plugin packaging.

Lessons learned
  • File and test discovery provides inspection leads, rather than proof of behaviour.
  • Keep the free context scanner distinct from the paid change workflow.
  • Label heuristic recommendations and missing evidence explicitly.

Context Compass maps a repository before work begins: instructions, likely contracts, code and test leads, quality scripts, recent changes, and questions that still need evidence.

The public plugin is open source. A separate paid workflow on Agensi connects requested behaviour to inspected code, test assertions, documentation, and verification. No measured time or defect reduction is claimed.
